How to calculate video clipping cost per batch

Estimate clipping costs from processing credits, review time, revisions, and usable exports rather than the number of generated files.

Video clipping cost includes more than the software price. There is time spent selecting moments, correcting captions, checking exports, and handling revisions. Counting every generated file can make a batch look inexpensive even when many of the results are unusable.

Start with a small batch that represents your regular work. Record actual spending and time. Your own results provide a better budgeting basis than an advertised number of clips an AI tool might generate.

Define a usable result

Count a publishable clip rather than a successfully rendered file. A usable result meets the brief, preserves context, and passes image and caption review.

If eight candidates produce three approved clips, use three as the divisor for final cost. You can still record eight as the candidate count, but those two numbers answer different questions.

For your own content, define the review needed before publication. For client work, agree on when revisions are complete. Otherwise an apparently small assignment can expand while the budget remains unchanged.

Separate tool spending from working time

Record processing cost according to the tool's actual billing unit: credits, source minutes, or another stated measure. Add expenses attributable to the assignment. Do not assign the entire cost of a new computer to a small batch without a reasonable allocation method.

Track review and revision time separately. Faster processing does not necessarily mean a faster finished job if the output requires substantial correction.

A simple planning formula is:

Cost per usable clip = total batch cost ÷ number of usable clips.

For a fuller internal estimate, include a value for your own time. This is a planning tool, not a market-rate claim or a promise of what a client will pay.

Work through an illustrative example

Suppose a batch uses $5 of tool spending and one hour of work that you value at $25. With three usable clips, the planning total is $30, or $10 per clip. These are illustrative inputs, not ClipperLab package prices or promised client rates.

Now reduce the usable output to two clips. Cost per clip rises even though the software spending is unchanged. This is why candidate quality and revision work belong in a tool comparison.

You can also keep cash spending and time in separate columns when you do not yet know how to value your hours. That is more useful than choosing an arbitrary rate and treating it as a fact.

Choose a package after observing usage
